JU sinology student wins the first edition of ”Sinoprzekład”, a nationwide translation competition

Andrzej Swoboda (譚謙誠) has won the first edition of ”Sinoprzekład” [”Sinotranslation”], a nationwide translation competition. The translation written by Kacper Kamiński (康偲爾) has been listed among the seven distinguished contest entries as well. The two aforementioned participants are both third-year sinology students at JU. ”Sinoprzekład” is the first Chinese to Polish literary translation contest in Poland. The students of Polish sinology, philology and Far Eastern Studies institutes were competing to win first place by grappling with the challenging task of translating a difficult piece written by Chen Ping (陳平).

The award ceremony was organised by the Sinological Research Circle at the University of Warsaw, along with a number of side events, such as a series of lectures given by experts on China-related matters and various workshops, during which the participants were able to play one of the oldest games in the world, learn basic Chinese characters and predict their future by means of the ancient Chinese methods of divination.
